
$10-a-day childcare funding secured for Fraser Heights Recreation Centre
The City of Surrey secured the provincial funding that will reduce childcare costs to $10 per day for licensed group care programs and $7 per day for licensed preschool programs.
Surrey, B.C. – $10-a-day childcare will be coming to Fraser Heights Recreation Centre. The City of Surrey secured the provincial funding that will reduce childcare costs to $10 per day for licensed group care programs and $7 per day for licensed preschool programs. The new lower rates will go into effect, April 1, 2025.
“Affordable childcare not only alleviates financial stress for families, but also paves the way for stronger, more connected communities,” said Mayor Brenda Locke. “With so many young families in Surrey, access to affordable childcare is crucial. I want to thank the province for providing this vital funding. It represents not just a reduction in costs, but a meaningful investment in our children and their futures, ensuring they have the best possible start in life.”
The City of Surrey has made 23 applications for $10 a day childcare. This program is part of the provincial government's commitment to making childcare more affordable and accessible for families.
“Fraser Heights Recreation Centre remains committed to providing high-quality childcare services, empowering families and fostering a bright future for children in Surrey,” said Laurie Cavan, General Manager of Parks, Recreation and Culture. “This successful funding will hopefully be the gateway for more funding at other recreation facilities in the future.”
