Surrey, BC – Surrey Art Gallery Association announces their March Thursday Artist Talk with Chris Murdoch at Surrey Art Gallery on March 6 from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. titled “What’s Next? Maintaining Creativity as an Artist.” Admission is free.

Speaking about his transition from theatre to circus and teaching to film, multidisciplinary artist Chris Murdoch will explore the question of “what’s next” from three different angles: first, as an excellent mantra for practice, second, as a question that drives many artists forward in their career paths, and third, as a question for aging artists who can no longer rely on the energy and inspiration of their youth. This talk will include some performance activities.

About the Artist

In Chris Murdoch’s twenty years on stage, he has performed a host of juggling and prop manipulation arts, theatrical and film acting, martial arts, acrobatics, and even some bad magic. Along with Yuki Ueda, Chris founded and produced Madskillz Vancouver—a ground-level circus festival that ran for ten years, as well as a contemporary juggling show called “Cause and Effect” that performed at the Singapore Grand Prix and across North America. Murdoch has taught circus workshops in Canada, Australia, the United States, and southeast Asia. He took up leatherwork in 2016 and now works full time at a film studio, making real costumes for imaginary people.
